A bookmaker refused to accept a €2,000 bet on the date of Prince William's engagement to Kate Middleton. on the grounds that the punter looked too posh. Staff at the William Hill shop near Windsor Castle said the man looked "out of place" in a betting shop and that they suspected him of knowing the couple and having "insider" knowledge. "He was very posh, clean- shaven, wearing a blazer, shoes, the full monty. He looked like a Ralph Lauren advert," said a spokesman.



A dead man has been elected mayor of Tracy City, Tennessee. Carl Geary, 55, won three times as many votes as his rival, Barbara Brock, even though he suffered a fatal heart attack at the start of the campaign. "I knew he was deceased but we wanted someone other than her," said one local. "If he were to run again next week, I'd vote for him again."


A man has been banned for driving for three years after being caught drunk behind the wheel of a toy car.
