The 41-year-old German finished a lowly tenth in Sunday's Chinese grand prix, a race won by Jenson Button. "The dominant force in grand prix racing for a generation" has not found things easy since he returned to the sport. In every session at all four grands prix so far this season, he has qualified more slowly than his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.
